How do you build an audience with a community that doesn’t really understand what you do?
That’s exactly what Katherine Martin and the rest of the team at Narrative Science were facing earlier this year.
They needed to figure out how to generate awareness around data storytelling—at a time when few people even knew what “data storytelling” meant.
The big idea?
A 2-day virtual event—in April, the height of business uncertainty caused by COVID. If it was going to work, it had to be bigger and more aggressive than the typical thought-leadership webinar.
“We created the event, promoted it, and had it within 3 weeks of deciding to do it.”
And that risk paid off. The audience that they’ve been able to generate in the last 6 months has been 5X the audience they generated in all of 2019.
