Problems Point Us to Our Purpose

Each of us has a calling. The type of work we were born to do.

And problems are the compass that can point us to that calling based on our unique combination of gifts, interests, and skillsets.

Quick example…

My wife is a geriatric residential care nurse. She spends 12-hour days solving the types of problems that I would personally find overwhelming and stressful. I’m just not built for it.

The types of problems that light me up are things like:

  • Figuring out how to overcome complex business obstacles.
  • Helping clients see new solutions and possibilities.
  • Creating space for breakthroughs and those wonderful “aha!” moments.

Problem solving and coaching sync perfectly with my own unique gifts.

But ask my wife for her thoughts about solving business problems, and her eyes will instantly glaze over. Zero interest.

We all have an important contribution to make to the world. Our own unique combination of abilities and interests. Identifying the types of problems we care about most is a critical step toward tapping into our gifts.

What will you do today to start solving the types of problems that truly light you up?

Will you pay closer attention to the challenges that authentically inspire you, and think about what they may have in common?
